Chasing Waterfalls at Ricketts Glen
A 5-mile Forge Adventures family hike through one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful waterfall trails.
There are some places that remind you why we adventure in the first place. Places that slow you down, humble you a little, and remind you that the best things in life aren’t things at all — they’re experiences.
Today was one of those days.
We headed to Ricketts Glen State Park for a roughly 5-mile hike through the waterfalls with my wife Shelli, my father Kent, my stepmom Renee, and our dog Spencer the Border Doodle.
We started around 9:00 AM and made it back around 4:00 PM, taking our time to enjoy the trail, the views, the waterfalls, and the kind of family memories that make the miles worth it.
A Trail That Feels Like Another World
If you’ve never been to Ricketts Glen, it is hard to explain just how incredible this place really is. Waterfalls pour over ancient rock ledges, streams cut through deep green forest, and moss-covered boulders line the trail like something out of a storybook.
Every turn seemed to reveal another waterfall. Some dropped hard and loud over the cliffs, while others quietly flowed through the rocks. The sound of moving water followed us almost the entire hike and made it feel like we had stepped into another world.
Hiking with Family Makes the Miles Better
One of the best parts of the day was getting to share it with family. Shelli, Kent, Renee, Spencer, and I all got to experience the trail together — climbing rocks, crossing wet sections, stopping for photos, and taking in some of the best waterfall views in Pennsylvania.
Adventure does not always have to mean motorcycles, vans, side-by-sides, or big road trips. Sometimes adventure is simply spending the day outside with the people you love.
The History of Ricketts Glen
Ricketts Glen has a history as impressive as its views. The land was once owned by Colonel Robert Bruce Ricketts, a Civil War officer and businessman who recognized the beauty of the area and helped preserve much of it from the heavy logging that changed so much of Pennsylvania’s forests.
The park is now famous for its Falls Trail system, which features more than 20 named waterfalls. The tallest and most well-known is Ganoga Falls, standing around 94 feet high. Walking through the glen, it is easy to see why this place became something worth protecting.

Photos are great, but video really shows the beauty of the waterfalls and trail. Here’s a quick look at our Ricketts Glen adventure.
Worth Every Mile
The hike was challenging in spots. Wet rocks, elevation changes, stairs, and plenty of uneven footing definitely kept us moving carefully — especially around the waterfalls. But every climb felt worth it when another incredible view appeared around the bend.
By the time we made it back to the trailhead around 4 PM, we were definitely feeling the miles… but in the best possible way. Tired legs. Great memories. Amazing views.
This was exactly the kind of day that reminds us why we love getting outside. Ricketts Glen gave us waterfalls, history, challenge, and time together — and that is a pretty good adventure in our book.
Forge your path. Conquer the wild.
